Lothar Matthaus compared Chelsea youngster with Alphonso Davies; serious talent on their hands

Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich may very possibly leave Germany this summer, yet a fresh player in London may have emerged with a similar future.

Ghanian talent David Oduru has been the target of high praise from Bavarian icon Lothar Matthaus who compared the youth to Thomas Tuchel’s Canadian left-back.

Chelsea have been advised that they have a serious talent on their hands in the teenager.

In his exclusive column with CaughtOffside, the BILD reporter stated, “David Oduru (17) is involved with the camp with Chelsea’s academy.”

“He’s coming from another academy in Ghana. Lothar Matthaus is part of this academy and told me that he’s really proud the young left fullback is now at Chelsea and is hoping that the Blues see his big talent.

“He’s compared the player with Alphonso Davies and has described him as a very fast footballer with desirable offensive qualities. So perhaps you’ll get the next Davies in the Premier League!”

Chelsea could do with a reliable left-back

With Ben Chilwell recovering from a hamstring injury, Mauricio Pochettino has drawn criticism for starting center-half Levi Colwill at the left-back position for the majority of the 2023–24 campaign.

When appropriate, Marc Cucurella has divided duties there, but it’s telling that the Argentine head coach seems to have more faith in his youthful prodigy.

Even while this isn’t the moment to make Oduru the center of attention, if the Ghanaian can reach his enormous potential, he can end up sparing his team a lot of trouble in the future.

Not to mention possibly allow Colwill to return to his natural, preferred position.
