Even though Tottenham is interested, Gallagher doesn’t seem to be in a rush to decide this month, and Spurs’ decision could also depend on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leaving the team later in the transfer window, according to the Evening Standard.
It’s unclear how all of this will work out because it appears to be a fairly open scenario, but it’s not ideal for Chelsea, who must raise money in January in order to be able to acquire new players.
Trevoh Chalobah and Ian Maatsen are two other homegrown players who could depart, according to The Standard’s story. However, one imagines Gallagher’s sale would make them the most money right now, and if he doesn’t leave in January, his value is sure to decrease by the summer.
At that point, the England international would be nearing the end of his Stamford Bridge deal, which would put pressure on CFC to let him leave for a price that might be far less than market value.
The 23-year-old might perhaps be doing the Blues a favor by agreeing to a move away now for a substantial profit, but given his strong on-field performances this season, many supporters will probably just hope he signs a new deal.
