With his transfer to the Bundesliga team, the Czech goalkeeper ends a five-and-a-half-year tenure with the Reds after joining the Manchester club in January 2018 from FC Slovacko in his home country.

Kovar became a regular between the posts for club Under-21s, making almost 50 appearances in Premier League 2. He also featured in the UEFA Youth League on six occasions for the Under-19s.

The 23-year-old played in two senior friendlies this summer, despite not making a competitive first-team debut for United. He played the entire 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as Erik ten Hag’s team defeated Lyon 1-0 in Edinburgh after replacing him for the second half of our initial preseason success, 2-0 against Leeds United in Oslo.

Additionally, Kovar sat on the bench for the final two friendlies against Athletic Club in Dublin and Lens at home.

Matej has served Manchester United well, and everyone at the team would like to thank him and wish him well in the future.
